I’m having a celebration at the end of October 2019 for a true milestone in my life. I’m having a baby! And I really want to ensure my guests know how thankful I am to have them in my life and appreciate all they have done for me over the past decade. My plan is to source pleasing favours that are sincere for my attendees, therefore a bag of candy just won't do. I need something truly special!
It brought me to think about client gifting and how we wouldn’t be in business without our amazing customers. With rumours of a looming recession, client gifting can help to keep your business crash proof and have your company top of mind every time they use or see your gift!
Here Are My Top Client Gifts Ideas for Service Providers:
Cheeseboards are super popular right now. Who doesn’t love cheese, wine & laughter.
A wine gift set consisting of a bottle, wine glasses and wine charms are a sure win especially if you know the clients favourite wine.
Exclusive coupons/ discounts to use on their birthday or next purchase.
Free tickets to one of your upcoming events or one you are attending.
Unique and personalized pen set- something fun and funky
A donation to a charity on their behalf.
A personalized mug with locally sourced teas/ cookies or chocolates.
An array of skin care products- something that smells delightful.
An assortment of jams, jellies, crackers from local artisans that tickles the tastebuds.
The Best Time to Send Clients a Gift
You might be thinking of only gifting during the month of December, but on my list of when to say thank you, the holidays fall almost last to number 5. Everyone else gifts during the holidays, why not stand out and gift year round? My job is to help you truly deliver an extraordinary experience and perfectly timed appreciation might just have your clients bragging about you non-stop. Some clever times to say thank you to your clients are:
Right after a contract is signed or delivered service.
Your client's birthday is a great time to so show some love.
Client Milestones eg. Wedding, new baby, new job (You should be all up in your client’s business to know this)
Client’s anniversary with your business (Thanks for being with us for 2 years!)
During any type of holiday- doesn’t have to only be at the end of the year.
Present a gift when your client refers new paying clients. I met a realtor once that would show up at your door with a bottle of wine and $500 if you referred her a client that made a purchase.
Best Practices When Client Gifting
Sit down and write out your approach and gifting strategy. Your reasons why, the type of clients you want to gift, if you want to use a gifting service. Make a plan, but use my tips below to get you started:
Using your company name on merchandise might not be the best idea. Consider another way to show your client how much you care. Company colours might be better than company logos. (Comes off as in-genuine)
Don’t break the bank but if you offer a high-end luxury service, then gift accordingly.
Even small samples or information (brochures) can be a gift. (Think about leaving the dentist’s office with mini floss, toothbrush, toothpaste and tongue scraper) these are perfect travel items for their customers.
Get creative with your gifts. Sometimes it makes sense to gift according to your industry. Think about something extra your client would like. Eg. Vision care owners could gift designer personalized glasses cases or super nice glasses cleaning cloths.
Even coupons and discounts can be turned into gifts to and generate recurring revenue.
Personalize your gifts, people love seeing and hearing their names. Make it sound like they are the only one who got that specific gift. Trust me, they’ll feel great.
Almost any industry can take advantage of finding ways to treat their customers, clients and guests extra special.
What are the main benefits of client gifting you ask?
So few companies are gifting these days. Another way for you to be top of mind.
Everyone loves receiving gifts and what a nice surprise to get something in the mail or hand- delivered nowadays.
Create engagement, I’m sure your client will be emailing or calling you to say thank you for the consideration. You surely might become their new best friend.
You clients will not only return for more of your offering but imagine the referrals as they brag about your thoughtful gift.
Worried about cost? Don’t. 86% of customers will pay more for a better experience and a large amount of that group will pay up to 25% more.
I’ll never forget the last Oprah Winfrey Show episode. After 25 years and never one sick day (that’s insane btw), Oprah identified that there is one specific common thread that runs through the human fabric of life and it’s that “we all want to feel valued and that we matter”.
Think about some special and affordable ways and times you could thank your customers and clients for their support in your business and really show them how much they mean to you.
Don’t forget, get ready for 2020, when customer experience will matter more than price and product.
“One customer, well taken care of, could be more valuable than $10,000 worth of advertising.” – Jim Rohn
